MidWeek Musings

Posted on September 21, 2016

Let’s say you want to drive to Bay City from Red Wing with a friend.  You tell your friend, “We are going to take highway 63 North and cross the high bridge over the Mississippi. Then we will cross over the Wisconsin channel bridge that separates Minnesota from Wisconsin. After that we will intercept Highway 35 and go East 4 miles until we reach our destination.”

Your friend says, “That’s not the way I want to go to. I want to cross the river in Bay City.”

You say to your friend, “That won’t work!  There is no bridge in Bay City.”  So your friend says, “OK, then, I’ll go down river and cross the river at Maiden Rock and then return to Bay City.”  You respond and say, “That won’t work either because there is no bridge at Maiden Rock.”  You say the same thing about Stockholm and Pepin.

The only way you are going to get to Bay City from Red Wing is to cross the river at Red Wing – No exceptions for anyone!

In 2 Peter 3, Peter says, “The heavens will pass away with a terrible noise.  The sun, moon, and stars themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be burned up. 11 Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this …

Peter says, concerning these events, that there is no way around this!  It is prescribed by God Himself and He will bring it to bear on our future. There is only one way to Bay City and everyone has to take the same route.

Now, in light of all the imposed destruction, Peter asks, “How then, should you live out your lives now?”

Great question!

More Sunday.
