A week ago at one of our Special Emphasis Prayer Meetings, a lady prayed for the children of Cornerstone and said, “Thank you Lord, for the young children who believe in you just because … they believe.”
She continued to pray with the recognition that we only have windows of opportunity for a while and then they are no more. Believing in God and knowing God go hand in hand. Believing God leads us to knowing God, not the other way around.
But knowing God is the most meaningful pursuit in life. Jeremiah 9:23–24 says, “Thus says the Lord, 'Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me.'"
God says, "If you are going to lift yourself up in front of others, do it about knowing Me! If you can't talk about that, then you don't have much to brag about anyhow."
Knowing God is more than having a religious experience with Him or explaining how you feel about Him. To know Him is to enter into a relationship with Him so He is the dominant Influencer of your thoughts and actions.
Jesus said, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." (John 17:1)
The pursuit of knowing God is more than information. It is more than study. It is your spirit abiding with His Spirit on an ongoing basis. Knowing God better is to be life's most authentic pursuit.
Knowing God deeply should be the priority of every person who claims to be authentic in their faith. It must be our highest aim.
How did your last encounter with Christ move you to know him better? Let me repeat, Jesus said: “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." (John 17:1)
