Fire in the Pie Hole! (James 3:6)
"Fire in the hole” is a warning that an explosive detonation in a confined space is imminent.
“Fire in the hole” is not to be confused with fire in the “pie hole”. The “pie hole” is a person’s mouth. For example, you’ve no doubt heard, “Shut your pie hole!”
"Fire in the pie hole" is the reality that an explosive detonation in a given space (i.e. mouth) is always looming.
James speaks brutally clear about a real “fire in our pie hole”. He says, “Your mouth can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.”
James gave us a lot of the downside regarding our tongue/words, but not much of the upside. This Sunday we want to look at the upside.
The upside will sound a lot like Solomon and Isaiah respectively when they said, “The tongue has the power of life” and “The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue to know the word that sustains the weary.”
More, so much more on Sunday – like this:
Because a woman's vocal cords are shorter than a man's she can actually speak with less effort than he can. Shorter vocal cords not only cause a woman's voice to be more highly pitched, but they also require less air to become agitated, making it possible for her to talk more with less energy expended!
“Talking more with less energy expended” is a gift from God! You’ll see what I mean if you come to church this Sunday!
So much more … So live in such a manner that you wouldn't be ashamed to sell the family parrot to the town gossip.
