"Finishing Strong – Finishing well!" (1)
Thanks to all of you who were at Cornerstone this past Sunday! Thanks to all of you who rearranged your plans so you could share together an important announcement about Cornerstone. Thanks to all of you who listened to the service on-line. Thanks to everyone who “got the word out” regarding Kate and Mark’s resignation.
Here’s a quick recap:
It is with joy and simultaneous heartache that both Kate and I sense our ministry at Cornerstone in Red Wing has come to an end. It is time for a “Joshua” to move the church into God’s next chapter.
The church is in good condition and position to move ahead with vision and blessing.
For the Kalbs, this is a time to transition into the next lap of our life and ministry. Kate and I must make sure we are “running God’s race” as we move into the next, and possibly, last lap of ministry and life.
In Galatians 2:2 Paul says, “I went to Jerusalem to meet privately with the leaders of the church. I presented to them the gospel that I preached. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain.
Just before a long holiday weekend, a minister patiently waited in line to have his car filled with gas. The attendant worked quickly, but there were many cars ahead of the preacher. Finally, the attendant motioned the preacher toward a vacant pump.
"Preacher," said the young man, "I'm sorry about the delay. It seems as if everyone waits until the last minute to get ready for a long trip."
The minister sighed and with bent brow said, "I know what you mean. It's the same in my business."
For the next couple of Sundays, we want to talk about finishing well and finishing strong in both our race and our fight. We want to be ready now and in the future.
Here’s an Overview:
2 Timothy 4:6 – As for me, my life has already been poured out as a drink offering to God. The time of my death is near. (7)I’ve fought the good fight. I’ve finished the race. I’ve remained faithful. (8) And now the prize awaits me – the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.
Looking at our lives now, and looking back on how we have spent our life, we want to be convinced that God is saying to us, “You have and are fighting the good fight. You are running God’s race. You have fulfilled your purpose. You have remained faithful – you finished well!”
Oh, how I long to hear Christ’s voice speaking over my life saying, “You finished well!”
Hope to see you Sunday as we consider our race and our battle.
